DTF Transfer Printing Fume Extraction

DTF Transfer Printing Fume Extraction

Introducing Filtrabox’s DTF series fume extractors for Direct-to-Film (DTF) printers. The Filtrabox DTF fume extractor captures the thick oily fog generated during the curing of the printed transfers. Produce quality transfers for garments and other substrates in a clean air environment – your products and employees will benefit! These extractors feature reinforced filters, large liquid reservoirs, and protected electronics to handle your demanding applications. Two sizes are available (Micro-DTF and the CompactX-DTF) to suit any production volume, small and large.

Why do I need the Filtrabox D-FOG fume extractor for the DTF process?

The process starts with a DTF inkjet printer laying down specialized inks onto special plastic PET films. These films are known as DTF Transfer Films. Then, DTF hot-melt adhesive powder, a white granular product, is applied to the printed transfer film. The powder is evenly applied to the film with a powder shaker. The powder only sticks to the areas that have ink on them. The powder shaker literally shakes off the excess powder off the film. The film is then transported into a small curing oven that is used to melt and bind the hot melt powder onto the transfer film. The hot-melt adhesive does not actually release fumes at this stage because of the nature of the thermoplastic adhesives used.

However, the oven boils away the excess liquid from the inks and creates a fog. The dense, "oily" fog is made up of a concentration of tiny liquid droplets. This is where fume extraction is required. Our DTF fume extractors are specifically designed to capture these microscopic droplets. This is necessary to keep the work environment, product and equipment clean and fog-free. The Filtrabox DTF Fume Extractors feature reinforced liquid-resistant prefilters and Hydrophobic HEPA filters for efficient and reliable removal of fog particles. The unique reverse-flow configuration of the FIltrabox DTF fume extractors ensure that accumulated liquids do not reach the blowers and electronics for reliable performance you can count on. A liquid reservoir is built into each fume extractor to capture excess liquids that build up within the system which then can be drained at your convenience.

Once the transfer film is complete with ink and adhesive layers applied and oven cured, a Heat Press is used to transfer the designed embellishment onto fabric or garment without any additional release of fumes.

What is the primary purpose of a laser fume extractor?

The primary purpose of a laser fume extractor, like Filtrabox's model, is to capture the fumes generated during laser engraving, cutting, or marking and recirculate purified, clean air back into the work environment. This improves indoor air quality and ensures a safer workspace.

What are laser fumes made up of?

Laser fumes comprise two primary components: respirable dust and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Are simple dust collectors sufficient for handling laser fumes?

No, simple dust collectors are not enough. A comprehensive fume extraction solution designed explicitly for laser fumes is required.

What kind of lasers generate respirable dust?

All laser marking, engraving, and cutting systems—including CO2, fiber, and YAG lasers—generate respirable dust.

What is the risk associated with respirable dust?

Respirable dust particles are so small (2.5 microns and less in diameter) that they can penetrate deep into the lungs and pose increased health risks.

How effective are Filtrabox's HEPA filters?

Filtrabox uses high-performance HEPA filters tested at H14, which is 99.99% at 0.3 microns. It captures virtually all respirable dust particles, producing extremely clean air.

Can the dust particles be seen with the naked eye?

Given their small diameter, individual dust particles are usually invisible to the naked eye but can often be seen as smoke in high concentrations.

Why is a three-stage, high-efficiency filter arrangement important?

A three-stage, high-efficiency filter arrangement ensures comprehensive capture of respirable dust and VOCs, making the air dust-free and free from harmful organic compounds.

Is Filtrabox's fume extractor suitable for all laser applications?

Filtrabox's fume extractor is excellent for all laser applications, including engraving and cutting.

How does a fume extractor like Filtrabox improve indoor air quality?

By capturing laser fumes directly from the source and recirculating purified, clean air back into the work environment, Filtrabox's fume extractor significantly improves indoor air quality.
